Vacancy Details for 2026

The Home Department, Government of Odisha, has mandated a total of 172 vacancies for this recruitment cycle, out of which 58 seats are reserved for women.

Horizontal reservation policies also apply to specific categories. These candidates will be adjusted against their respective social categories.

The 8 posts reserved for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) are divided as follows:

• Cat-I (Blind/Low Vision): 1 post
• Cat-II (Hard of Hearing): 2 posts

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

Age eligibility is calculated as of 1st January 2026. Applicants must be a minimum of 21 years old and a maximum of 42 years old. This means candidates must have been born between 2nd January 1984 and 1st January 2005.

• 5 years for SEBC, SC, ST, Women, and Ex-Servicemen candidates.

Salary and Pension Framework

Fees will only be refunded to candidates who physically sit for the Preliminary Examination. These refunds will be processed post-examination back to the original payment method (Credit Card, Debit Card, UPI, Wallet, etc.). Applicants must provide their bank account details (Account Number, IFSC Code, Account Holder Name, Bank Branch Name) during registration to act as a fallback should the original refund method fail. Selection Process

The competitive examination for the Assistant Public Prosecutor post involves three critical stages:

Preliminary Examination

Acting strictly as a screening phase, the marks from the Preliminary Examination do not count toward the final merit list. The test spans 2 hours and consists of a single paper containing 100 Objective Type (MCQ) questions worth 100 marks. Each correct response awards 1 mark, while a 25% negative marking penalty applies to incorrect answers. Unattempted questions yield zero marks. Based on qualifying marks determined by the Commission, candidates will be shortlisted for the Main Examination at a ratio of up to 10 times the number of available vacancies per category.

Main (Written) Examination

The descriptive Main Examination comprises four separate papers, totaling 600 marks.

Candidates achieving the requisite marks in the written stage will progress to the Personality Test/Interview in a 1:2 ratio, adhering to a minimum of 5 candidates per category.

The final Merit List (Select List) evaluates the combined score of the Written Examination and Interview (out of 650 marks). Should a tie occur, the candidate with higher marks in the Written Examination takes precedence. If the tie remains unresolved, the older candidate, based on their date of birth, secures the higher rank.

• A Medical Board examination is mandatory for all selected candidates. Failure to meet medical standards will result in non-appointment.
• The Commission will disqualify and potentially permanently debar any candidate found utilizing unfair means in the Written Examination, submitting manipulated documents, or seeking illegal support.
• Incomplete applications, including those missing required document uploads, face rejection without prior correspondence.
• Securing a place on the select list does not guarantee an appointment unless the Government deems the candidate wholly suitable following an official enquiry.
